That awkward feeling
Awkward silences is there anything worse. The problem with awkward silences is everyone involved is normally feeling the same way and they always seem to end with a laugh. Awkward silences seem to happen all the time for no apparent reason they mainly seem to stem from someone feeling slightly embarrassed and no one knows what to say. People, please, we have all been in these situations and we all know how horrible they are, so please talk in these situations, try to start another conversation and stop this happening.

It does not take much to start a conversation, you know. One word or short statement can ease the tension in a group, whether it be witty or just down-right stupid.
Awkward silences can drive a person insane, or make their embarassment ever-so much more deep. Sometimes, it physically hurts. More often than not, awkward silences alter the whole mood of a group.
Like Travis has said, please, make an effort to re-start a conversation, especially when it is causing someone pain.

-sob- The Ashlee-One is correct in her previous statement about the awkward silences being physically painful...they are, they are...as does a brick, but in a different sort of pain; like an "AAAHH!!! SHE THREW A BRICK AT ME!!!!" kinda pain. Eh eh eh.
